Some of the projects are more classroom-ish, but in general, it has nice seasonal lists of nature-related projects and the author's philosophy definitely encourages teachers to allow students space and time to make their own connections, do their Celestehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05834674328751444179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7330166316305441092.post-32839108893145700152013-07-06T10:37:34.189-07:002013-07-06T10:37:34.189-07:00This is fabulous, Naomi. I'm especially pleased to see the inclusion of architecture because my DD prefers to draw cityscapes to landscapes or wild life, and I've considered her interest as something "other" and not part of our nature studies. Well, we live in the city and our nature is usually surrounded by buildings Pages Plantedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16454941628790197217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7330166316305441092.post-10673181521257202372013-07-06T10:17:39.238-07:002013-07-06T10:17:39.238-07:00Celeste, you're the second person who has reco...Celeste, you're the second person who has recommended that book, I'll have to take a look at it. I was wondering whether those would be considered independent work for the kids, covering a term's work, and also leaving room for the creative and personal style of the unformatted nature journal. Please let me know how your special studies go, I'm just testing them out on my guinea Naomihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04725083231063968124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7330166316305441092.post-64947252678683217272013-07-06T10:11:47.616-07:002013-07-06T10:11:47.616-07:00Jeanne, I have full confidence in your ability to ...Jeanne, I have full confidence in your ability to figure it all out and let us know ;-) From what I can tell and the way I understand it, the special studies once assigned would be mostly an independent study with questions on the exam to tell about their findings. For example, exam 92, form iv:

2. Write notes, with drawings, on the special studies you have made this term.
<Naomihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04725083231063968124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7330166316305441092.post-31706073875934264272013-07-06T07:11:42.480-07:002013-07-06T07:11:42.480-07:00Thank you for this! I am in the midst of thinking through some "special studies" for next year with Partridge's Natural Science Through the Seasons, and from what you have written here, the two books have a LOT of similarities. It's funny because last week I was trying to look up a copy of The Changing Year or Countryside Rambles after reading the Celestehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05834674328751444179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7330166316305441092.post-60657216042813626602013-07-06T04:15:54.270-07:002013-07-06T04:15:54.270-07:00Charlotte Mason's science was so multifaceted!...Charlotte Mason's science was so multifaceted! We know that everything she did was for a reason, and the more I learn of her methods, the more in awe I feel. How do we fit everything in - botany right through school, special studies, observational sciences, physical geography. What about the more specialised subjects - chem, physics, genetics. Where would she have gone with those?
Jeannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09573473465011631325noreply@blogger.com
